With a history of more than 30 years, Hennessey Performance is well known for taking the most powerful, fastest, loudest cars out there and making them even more powerful, faster, and louder. The latest test Hennessey engineers have done at the Pennzoil Proving Grounds Test Track is clear-cut proof of this. They took a Camaro ZL1 1LE upgraded with the HPE850 package and pushed it to its limits around the famous track. Before watching the video, you should be aware that if you wear your headset you should probably lower the volume!

The HPE850 package is based on the Camaro ZL1 1LE. From the factory, it comes with a supercharged, 6.2-liter V-8 engine rated at 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. In true Hennessey spirit, this is not enough for a muscle car, so a few updates are required. The V-8 engine was updated with a new ECU, a high-flow air filter, a port-matched throttle body, upgraded tuning software, and a new lower pulley. To help the engine breathe a lot better, Hennessey also installed new high-flow cylinder heads, a high-flow heat exchanger upgrade, high-flow air induction system, long-tube headers, high-flow catalytic converters, and a custom Hennessey camshaft. The tuner also updated the valve springs, the intake, and the exhaust valves.

After all these updates, the HPE850 delivers a total of 850 horsepower and 860 pound-feet of torque. The extra 200 horsepower helps it sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.7 seconds - down from the standard 3.4 seconds. The quarter-mile time is also improved by almost an entire second: 10.4 seconds at 135 mph. The ZL1 1LE needs 11.3 seconds at almost 130 mph. While these numbers are not as impressive as the 1,000-hp Exorcist package, they are still noteworthy.
