Russian forces have attacked a Ukrainian oil refinery in Kremenchuk, as well as a thermal power plant.

Kremenchuk oil refinery, near the Dnipro River, was targeted by the Russian forces using long-range missiles, Reuters quoted the Russian defence ministry as saying.

The Kremenchuk facility, which is said to be Ukraine’s only fully functioning oil refinery, was used by the country to supply its troops deployed near the city of Mykolaiv.

The refinery processed 3.2 million tonnes of oil last year.

In addition to the oil refinery, the Russian forces also hit Ukrainian military installations, which the Poltava region governor had said were destroyed earlier this month.

Earlier this month, the Kremenchuk oil refinery, and three fuel and lubricants storage facilities, were hit by Russia’s high-precision sea and air missiles.

The ministry said: “The armed forces of the Russian Federation continue the special military operation in Ukraine.

“High-precision, long-range weapons destroyed fuel production facilities at an oil refinery on the northern outskirts of the city of Kremenchuk, as well as petroleum products storage facilities, which fuelled military equipment for Ukrainian troops.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the country’s ‘special military operation’ is necessary in Ukraine as the US was threatening Russia using Ukraine. In response, Moscow had to defend against the persecution of the Russians.

Poltava Regional Military Administration head Dmytro Lunin was reported by Ukrinform as saying, in a post on Telegram: “Details of the attack on Kremenchuk. The day before, nine enemy missiles hit the Kremenchuk thermal power plant and the Kremenchuk oil refinery, again.

“Unfortunately, one person was killed, seven people were injured, they have injuries of varying severity. We have significant destruction of buildings, but all fires are isolated.”
